The locket hangs from a new 9ct gold chain. The locket is a gold 'back and front' locket which means the front and back of the locket are 9ct gold while the inside is brass. Brass was used at this time for strength, lockets are opened and closed which can weaken the closure, brass solved this problem at the time.
